We added LED-cured polyurethane from LED Coating Solutions to our finish lineup because of one specific problem homeowners kept bringing up: traditional poly finishes take too long. You sand, you stain, you coat, and then you wait. A day between coats. A week before furniture goes back. Longer than that before you can trust the floor with heavy traffic.
LED-cured poly works differently. The finish is engineered to cure the moment it's exposed to LED light instead of curing slowly through evaporation. Our crew applies the coat, passes the light over it, and that layer is done. No overnight wait between coats, no week of tiptoeing around a room you can't fully use yet.
That matters most for households where taking a room offline for a week isn't really an option. A kitchen you cook in every day. A single bathroom you can't skip. A living room with the only couch in the house. We've had homeowners tell us the finish quality itself matters less to them than getting their life back faster, and this is the finish built for exactly that.
What this actually changes for your project
The biggest difference isn't the look of the floor. A well applied LED-cured poly and a well applied traditional poly can look very similar once both are fully cured. The difference is in the timeline and in how the floor holds up while it's curing.
Traditional poly is vulnerable during its cure window. Foot traffic, dust settling on a tacky surface, furniture legs pressed in too soon, all of that can affect the final finish if you don't wait long enough. LED-cured poly removes most of that risk because there isn't a long soft window where the finish is still setting up. Once it's cured under the light, it's cured.
It also runs lower odor than a lot of traditional oil-based polys, since there isn't days of off-gassing while the finish dries in your air. If you've got someone in the house who's sensitive to fumes, that's worth knowing about going in.

Floors after being refinished look brand new. Steve and crew were extremely professional and the attention to detail was phenomenal. When they say 99% dust free that is what they mean. We have dark granite in kitchen and had a hard time finding any dust, but if there was any, they kept it clean during the refinishing process. We are perfectionist, as well as Steve and his crew! We are satisfied in every way!

I have been meaning to write this for several months now. These guys were very professional, did a great job, and went above and beyond. I was impressed by how clean the house was after they were completed. Definitely going to be using them when I need to get them refinished again.

Our floors look amazing! The Black Forest crew did an outstanding job refinishing the wood floors in our kitchen, dining room, and landing. They were courteous and friendly, explaining the process along the way with tips and advice. They even brought a few more stain samples than the one I chose, laying them all on the floor so I could see how they compared to one another. And their process was dust free, which I appreciate with a split level, open floor house. The job was finished on time and I'm really happy with the outcome! I would highly recommend Black Forest Hardwood Floors.

It started in commercial and factory finishing applications, but the technology has moved into residential work over the past several years and we now use it on homes throughout Spokane. The equipment and finish are the same either way. What changes is the size of the crew and the scope of the job, not the product itself.
This is actually one of the practical advantages. Since the finish is cured under light rather than drying over time, an accidental early walk-through is far less likely to leave a mark than it would be on a traditional poly that's still curing. We still recommend giving each coat time to fully cure before normal use, but the margin for error is a lot more forgiving.
Yes, and that surprises people. LED curing changes how the finish sets, not how many coats you need or whether light sanding between coats is still part of a quality job. We follow the same prep standards on an LED-cured project as we do on any refinish, because skipping that step is how you end up with a finish that looks fine on day one and shows flaws within a year.
Upfront, LED-cured poly usually costs more per square foot than a standard water-based or oil-based poly, mainly because of the finish material and the equipment involved. Where it can even out is in reduced disruption, since you're not losing a week of normal life to drying time, and in some cases in how evenly the finish cures compared to a job that dried under less than ideal humidity or temperature conditions. We'll run real numbers for your specific floor during your consultation rather than quoting a rule of thumb.
In most cases yes, once the old finish is fully sanded off. LED-cured poly needs bare, properly prepped wood just like any other finish, so we're not applying it over top of whatever was there before. If your floors have been refinished multiple times already, we'll check remaining wood thickness before recommending another full sand and refinish, LED-cured or otherwise.
